Award descriptions and criteria
Outstanding MISSE Student Leader Award
Recognizes a MISSE student employee or MISSE student leader who engages or works at the Cultural Centers or is a member of the Cultural Center Programming Board. This award recognizes the work they have done to create a welcoming and positive work environment for their peers and visitors.
Rising Student Award
Honors a first-year, sophomore, or junior student who has demonstrated commitment to engagement and shows potential for future leadership within different student communities on campus.
Outstanding Senior Award
Recognizes a senior or student in their final year of undergrad, who has consistently exhibited leadership and advocacy, during their time at the university.
Campus Community Leadership Award
Presented to an undergraduate or graduate student who is dedicated to supporting programming and events or is actively involved in a student organization that supports student communities. This individual has demonstrated leadership within these programs, events, or student organizations.
Excellence in Perseverance Award
Presented to an undergraduate or graduate student who is dedicated to supporting programming and events or is actively involved in a student organization that supports student communities. This individual has demonstrated leadership within these programs, events, or student organizations.
Distinguished Educator and Service Award
Given to a UI faculty and a UI staff member who have promoted building community and belonging among students and staff. These efforts include but are not limited to, supporting the recruitment and retention of faculty and students, as well as contributing to teaching, research, programming, and community outreach activities that encourage community and celebrating shared experiences.
Community Collaboration Award
Recognizes a campus partner or UI department/unit that has collaborated effectively with MISSE and/or the Cultural Centers Programming Boards to promote a welcoming and respectful environment to students on campus.
